Back to School

As noted in the previous blog, this blog is slightly belated. :)

At the end of the summer, we were very ready for the kids to go back to school. Not because they were making us crazy, but more because they were making each other crazy. It is so hot in August so the kids generally end up stuck inside for a good portion of the day. That coupled with inevitable boredom, leads to much fighting. At the end of the day when I would get home from work, they would run to be begging and pleading for me to come up with some fantastic idea that would cure their boredom. Of course, any suggestion I come up with, (ex: watch a movie, scrapbook, write a letter, paint a picture, ride your bike, etc) is the worst idea ever and doesn't interest them in the slightest. So, I usually just suggest cleaning and then they run away and find something on their own. :)

However, even though they were bored to tears, they had absolutely zero interest in going back to school....even though it meant seeing their friends. They got a little more into it when we got new school clothes and backpacks, and after they saw their classroom lists. The night before the first day, Ally picked an outfit that coordinated with her backpack as well as her new shoes. I may be rubbing off on her with my matching obsession. :)
Brian, Brady and I all went the first day to take Zach and Ally to their classes. Brady stood right next to Zach the entire time. It is just precious how he wants to be just like his big brother. when we arrived, we found out second grade had to wait in the cafeteria for a short orientation, and they told us that fifth grade was to go straight to the classrooms. This meant that we had to separate. I stayed with Zach and Brady in the cafeteria, and Brian took Ally to her class. She came to kiss me bye, and I had to swallow down a huge lump. I really felt like I was going to be tough this day, but I didn't plan on not getting to personally deliver her to her class. I kissed her on the head one more time and daddy took her to class. She wasn't the least bit scared, and skipped right along, which made me feel better.

When Brian got back, it was time to take Zach to his class. Zach is my shy guy, and I could tell he was apprehensive about his new class. He hugged Brian first, and when I saw how the hug lingered and how he clung to him, I knew he was scared. When I kissed him bye, I saw his eyes were watering which made me tear up, and I couldn't talk or I would have had that embarrassing/gasping/trying not to cry sound!
I worried all day, but everything ended up going just fine. Both of the kids have friends in their classes and they both like their teachers (as long as they aren't giving them work to do..ha ha). The first few weeks were a little confusing with all the folders, papers, and many different things for me to sign for each kid daily. Ally usually knows exactly what to do, but Zach is still young and really didn't know what folder to bring home at first, let alone what homework to do or what papers I was supposed to sign. Getting him to remember to get his papers/folders out of his backpack and return it to the teacher was another small feat. :) We've finally got it all figured out and are back in the swing of things! We have teacher conferences on Thursday and will get their progress reports at that time. So far, all the work that has come home has been GREAT and we are looking forward to another fabulous year!!!
